PROJECT
GUIDELINES
SUGAR
N U has a two fold purpose
To provide in home testing,
consultation and education for diabetic and prediabetic
conditions. The testing is free except for the cost
of testing materials which cost about $10 at local stores
and
to
Provide
people who
choose to improve their health with a low cost self guided or physician
guided program that will teach the you how to avoid
diabetes or how to effectively manage it.
The
types of diabetes:
There 2
kinds of diabetes.
The first
kind is called type 1
diabetes. This is caused by the inability of the body to
produce
insulin. Insulin allows the body to absorb sugar into the
body's'
cells and to use it for energy. Type 1 diabetes is usually
found
in children.
The second
kind is called type 2 diabetes. Type 2
diabetes
is caused by the inability of the body to absorb sugar into the body
cells even though there is a sufficient supply of insulin.
Blood
sugar increases to very high levels in the blood, destroying the
tissues of the body.
Because of
this state the body
produces more and more insulin until the pancreas which produces
insulin is destroyed. Most people who are involved in the
SUGAR N
U project are concerned with type 2 diabetes.
Detecting
and testing for the presence of diabetes:
The best
and easiest way to
find out if you have diabetes is to test your blood sugar levels in
your home with a small blood testing meter as shown above and to the
left.
These are
available on the
Internet or in local stores for $10 to $20. They come with all the
parts necessary to do 10 tests and you will need 8 test strips to do a 4
hour glucose tolerance test
which is the gold standard for diabetes detection.
Additional
test strips can be purchased separately at very reasonable prices.
SUGAR
N U Will give you all the
technical support and information that you will need to do your own testing.
We will also interpret your results for free and will provide
you
with full information as to where you lie on the pre-diabetes or
diabetes spectrum. There is no charge for this and no
obligation.
We
want you to be fully
aware of your health issues. If you feel that we have a
unique
service and product then you may continue with our program of helping
you to take charge of your life at a very modest cost.
The
following is a sample
of a test result report that a patient would receive as a free
interpretation of his first glucose tolerance test.
